I read today that “society tends to seek stability and avoid conflict.”
I didn’t know what to make of this statement due to the fact that I disagree. I think on a deeper, possibly subconscious level, humans are innate to be attracted to conflict and chaos. That is why negative news is consistently being blasted through our televisions. Ideas of one’s imperfections needing to be perfected are plastered against billboards as we drive on the freeway.
That is why when a fight breaks out at school, people instinctively reach for their phones in order to capture the moment.
What about capturing the peaceful moment of a sunset?
How many sunsets do you see being shown on the news now days? How many billboards advertising where to watch the sunset do you see?
This is a broad comparison I make, as I know sunsets might not be the most interesting topic in the world. However it makes my point clear as to the fact that we as humans more often than not, look past the simple things in life. The things that would provide us with stability and peace (possibly the simple act of watching the sun set every night) and rather than avoiding conflict, we are drawn towards it.
Like a magnet.
